1996-97 District 5510 Governor Howard J Powers. Howard is a retired high school administrator who worked in education as a teacher, coach and administrator for 30 years. He received his Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Education from Arizona State University. In 1975 Howard was invited to join Phoenix East Rotary Club and served as President in 1980. He was chosen to serve as the GSE Team leader to India in 1993. In District 5510 he has served an Area Representative and as the District Representative to the Council on Legislation in Chicago. Howard and his wife Lynne have traveled extensively, giving them the opportunity to visit many Rotary Clubs as members of the International Travel and Hosting Fellowship of Rotary.
 
His wife Lynne is also a retired educator. They have two sons who both played college football. Howie is now an attorney and lives with his wife Arden in Chicago. Bret is an orthopedic surgeon and lives with wife Megan and son Gavin in Huntington Beach. All members of the family are Paul Harris Fellows. Lynne’s father Matt Hanhila was also a Rotarian.
 
Howard proudly served as Governor in the early years of District 5510 .
