Grapes for Grades!Prescott Frontier has a major fundraiser in June. It is a garden party/wine tasting called Grapes for Grades! We earn about $35,000 for the summer reading and math program in Prescott plus several other Rotary projects! This is about our twelfth year with this project!
11th annual ‘Grapes 4 Grades’ party raises $36,000
PRESCOTT – Frontier Rotary’s 11th annual “Grapes 4 Grades” event, held at Watters Garden Center Sunday, June 26, was attended by nearly 300 business owners and generous local residents. The evening raised more than $36,000 to support Prescott Unified School District’s Summer Math and Reading Program.
Rotary also supports “Rotary Youth Leadership Awards” camp. High school students who demonstrate leadership skills get 100 percent scholarships to the camp and are trained by local business leaders so they, too, will have a positive influence in the community. Rotary International’s mission of “World Peace” is promoted by giving scholarships to local students to travel as foreign exchange students to other countries in exchange for another students from another Rotary club in that country, creating mutual respect for each other and their country. Some of the monies raised also support the club’s endeavor to end polio globally through Rotary International’s polio fund, in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
“Lisa and I look for ways to give back to our community. We give heavily through our church, through our business here at Watters Garden Center, but with Rotary we have a direct global impact, and we see the difference,” said Ken Lain, Watters owner and a member of Frontier Rotary. “A garden party is a natural extension and the energy of our Rotary club.”
