Background:
Continued unrest in South Sudan puts to the test international peace-keeping efforts, exposing the limitations of contemporary conceptions of public life—Given the continued unrest, numerous questions follow, including: What next here in Phoenix where several thousands of refugees from this region strive to make their lives go under conditions not of their making. And what next in South Sudan where the conflict continues to upend people’s daily lives and the institutions necessary to support them? In light of such questions, a group of intercultural scholar-citizens has formed the Nile Institute for Peace and Development (NIPD). The organization is organizing a Community Peace Forum on September 3rd from 5PM to 8:30PM at 1500 W Maryland Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85015 to discuss governance, conflict resolution, and a way forward for South Sudan.  Featured speakers include Sun City West sponsored Peace Fellow, Dr. Christopher Zambakari. Dr. Zambakari co-founded the Nile Institute for Peace and Development, a nonprofit, and The Zambakari Advisory, a consulting firm in Phoenix that specializes in peacebuilding in Africa and in the Middle East. Dr. Zambakari and his research team, will be giving two talks entitled the “The Politics of Transition in South Sudan" and “Overview of Violent Events in South Sudan between 2012 and 2015.” All are welcomed to attend and light refreshments will be provided.
