Membership Update
By Tony Inglese - Membership Chair District 5490

As I sit down to write this I can’t believe that the 1st quarter of the year is already done!

A lot of activities are going on with the growth of this District; we have a couple of new Satellite Clubs starting up!

Last month I mentioned that we would discuss some Recruiting ideas.

Here are a couple that I have picked up through my travels to other clubs and the Emerging Leaders Summit that was held the weekend of September 22, 2016 wow!  What a great event!

First Idea;

Consider having a Rotary Business Mixer… I know we all probably go to many mixers already but put a spin on this one.
The RC Bullhead, Laughlin and the Satellite Club of Laughlin/Ft Mohave put together a Rotary Mixer that was designed to have Rotarians from all over the valley come, pass out business cards and meet some of the other Rotarians in town so that they could do business with other Rotarians. Let’s face  it not all Rotarians wear their pins all the time and if you visit their club and they happen not to be there you may never know if they are in the business you’re looking for to do business with.

They put this together in a 2 week period  invited the 2 local chambers, networking groups and all of the different charitable organizations (i.e. Boys and Girls Club) Board of Directors and even the School Principals.

Everybody was told to bring business cards and if they weren’t Rotarians they would hear a “Little Bit” about Rotary.

After mixing for a while the 2 Presidents and the Chairman of the Satellite Club spoke for about 3 minutes each explaining who they were, what projects they do in the community (So people could put the project to a Club)when and where they meet and which interact Clubs they supported. That made the Educators happy. They even mentioned what they did for a living.

When they wrapped it up they did a 50/50 and the winner a non-Rotarian gave the money back to Rotary. They had 5 participants indicate a strong interest in Rotary and as I write this I know of 3 new members including the person that gave back the money.

Second Idea:

Young Professionals!

They are looking to participate in Community Service Projects NOT go to a weekly meeting.

Consider inviting your local Rotaract to come help on your service projects  which I’m sure you already do but even take it a step further.

Why not convert them into a Satellite Club of Young Professionals that will allow them to create their own culture, time and place for meeting and be a member of your Club.

I also want to encourage as many of you that can possibly make it, attend one of the 2 Training Assemblies that are coming up in October. The 1st one is on 10/8/16 in Prescott and the 2nd one is in Phoenix on 10/22/16.

Rotary is changing and for us “Experienced Rotarians” (I learned that at the E.L. Summit) it can be an eye opener.

If you have some ideas that you want to share or have questions on your Club’s Membership please contact your Area Membership Coordinator, your AG or even myself.

We are here to support you.

Next month we will discuss some more Growth Ideas.
