Rotary Microcredit Projects in Sonora Mexico
Update September 2016
By Terry Lubsen
District 5510 Microcredit Project Coordinator

Hola Rotarians:
The Microcredit Projects in Hermosillo Mexico continue to be very successful. The two Global Grants in the Hermosillo Project portfolio, at our Micro-Finance Institution (FinReg), continue to perform well and are within our long term goal of 97.5% collection. Below is a matrix of the two active Rotary Global Grants in Hermosillo, as of July 2016:

These Global Grants were a joint effort of the three Districts in Arizona, (5490, 5500, and 5510); District 5330 - Muretta RC; District 6220 - Eagle River RC; District 6400 - Windsor RC & Windsor-Roseland RC; District 4100 in Mexico, the SanTan Crown RC – Chandler/Sun Lakes AZ (International Club Sponsor), and Pitic RC Hermosillo (Host Club Sponsor). I want to thank and acknowledge every Rotarian, Rotary Club, District Foundation Chairs and District Governors for their participation and support of these Community Development International Global Grants.
We are currently sponsoring a new Global Grant #1637450, with the Host Club in Nogales, Nogales Sur RC for RY’s 2016/17/18. This Grant has been submitted to RI for approval and totals $83,300 USD. Future Rotary Microcredit lending Projects in Sonora Mexico with our MFI Partner, “FinReg”, will allow us to expand Rotary Micro-lending to more locations in 2017/18/19/20, as FinReg opens new branches in Northern Mexico. Future Global Grants in new location will depend on agreements with local Mexican Host Rotary Clubs in the new locations. We are in the process of organizing a Microcredit Steering Team with members from all three AZ Districts to better facilitate the Microcredit Program going forward. If you are interested in getting more involved contact me for more information.  I will update you on the progress of any future Micro-lending Projects as they develop.
We have scheduled trips to the Hermosillo Project for Oct. 14/15; Dec. 9/10, and Feb 10/11 ‘17. Starting 2017 we have one day trips to Nogales; March 25 and May 6. Join us and see firsthand how small loans really do make a big difference. Tours are limited to 8 visitors on a first come basis; if you would like to participate please contact me at; 480-699-9649 or at terrylubsen@yahoo.com.
If you would like to schedule a presentation for your club or other civic organization or are interested in learning how small amounts of money loaned make a big difference to overcome poverty, contact me, at terrylubsen@yahoo.com, or call 480-699-9649. You can always visit our website at: “www.RotaryMicrocreditMexico.org”.
All Rotarian contributions to a Global Grant will earn Rotarians Paul Harris credits, be 50% matched by the Rotary Foundation, are tax deductible through our 501C3 Foundation, and help us reach new borrowers who have no other source of capital to support themselves and their families. Microcredit is the most effective and sustainable poverty intervention program available. Join us in this Rotary International Community Development Project and make a big difference in the lives of the people we support.
Thank you for your support!            “Rotary Serving Humanity”
