My mom has Alzheimer's disease and I am her primary caregiver.  It is a horrible disease and it has been so sad to watch her slip away.  So, I'm trying to do something about it!  I'm joining the Arizona Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's on 10/15/2016 and walking in honor of my mom, Edie Race!  I am committed to raising awareness AND  funds to support Alzheimer's care, support and research.
But I need your help...

You can help in two ways:

  1. Join me in the fight against Alzheimer's and walk with me. (if you live here in AZ)
  2. Help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation on my fundraising page (it's on Facebook, but here is my website)   http://act.alz.org/goto/KathyL

I hope I can count on your support because together, we can END Alzheimer's.  Thank you!!!!

The ROTARY CLUB of Sun City West
FORMS ALZHEIMER’S INITIATIVE  COMMITTEE

With the projected increase in the number of seniors who will become afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, the Rotary Club of Sun City West has formed a committee to administer locally the objectives of Rotary International’s Alzheimer’s/Dementia Action Group.  These objectives are: a) to raise the awareness of Alzheimer’s disease; and b) to raise funds to help with Alzheimer’s research.

Rotary Club President Dick Stuckey announced that the Club plans to host a symposium/trade show on Friday, March 31st, 2017 at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West to focus on the disease.  The event will be open and FREE to the public, with a suggested minimum $15 donation to support local Alzheimer's research. The symposium will feature renowned Alzheimer's research specialist, Dr. Marwan Sabbagh of Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix as its keynote speaker, along with other highly-qualified speakers who specialize in Alzheimer’s disease.   Vendors will be available to discuss their medical equipment, care facilities, caregiving services, and medications with attendees, as well.  Additional information on the day's agenda will be provided as details are finalized.

It is anticipated that the Club will conduct subsequent events as new information becomes available and needs are identified.  Kathy Linton will chair the new committee, and will coordinate their activities with other Alzheimer organizations and support groups in the area.  Donations from the general public and Club members will be utilized to benefit local Alzheimer disease support groups and research.

The local Rotary Club is comprised of 62 active members and meets weekly on Fridays at 11:30 am in the Quail Room at the Sun City West Foundation complex.  Meetings consist of a light lunch, business items, announcements and a guest speaker.  Additional information about the club’s activities and membership opportunities can be obtained by calling Tony Sambol at 623-266-3291.
