Arizona Interact Ambassadors to Kenya
By PDG Art Harrington - Youth Services Chair 5490

Four of our top high school age Interactors from Arizona will be selected to send to Kenya for two weeks in June 2017 to assist with the distribution of the 3,500 crutches and other mobility devices being collected and shipped to that country by the Interact clubs of Arizona.

The four Arizona Interact representatives will be hosted by the Interact Club of Trinity Mission School and their sponsoring Rotary Club of Gilgil, Kenya.  Applicants to serve as one of these representatives must be an active member of an Interact club in Arizona, Needles, CA, or Laughlin, NV, and submit with their application a recommendation from an Advisor to their Interact club.

From the funds being raised this year by the combined Interact clubs and districts in Arizona, including Needles, CA, and Laughlin, NV, the airfare for these four Interact Ambassadors to Kenya will be paid.  The selected Interact representatives and their families must be willing to pay the remainder of the costs of their trip, including insurance, passport & visa, required inoculations, luggage charges, travel meals and any spending money (estimated to be approximately $750).

The four Interact Ambassadors will be traveling in the company of Candace Talbot, from the Rotary organization, Crutches 4 Africa, along with one or more adult AZ Interact Advisors.

Applications for the four representative positions must be submitted by December 15, 2016.  The screening of the applications, and the online interview of the selected candidates, will be done by members of the District 5490 Rotary Youth Exchange Committee.  That committee will also independently select the four applicants who will represent Arizona Interact in Kenya, along with two alternates, who would serve if one or more of the representatives selected was unable to make the trip.  It will be required that the selected Interact Ambassadors register for and attend the Interact District Conference, where they will be introduced and presented to the assembled Interact members and Advisors.  The Conference is being held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, and is being hosted by the Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood.

Interested high school age Interact members can now apply on line, via our Interact website, www.rotaryazinteract.org, to be considered for one of these positions as an Arizona Interact Ambassador to Kenya.  The deadline for applications is December 15, 2016.
