Amigos de Guatemala
By Jean Herschede

An Ohio native, Jean Herschede has a love for Latin America.  The first introduction was through Rotary as an exchange student to Brazil in the 70's.  During college, Jean spent time in Colombia to learn Spanish.  Armed with a sheep skin from Vanderbilt University in Portuguese, Spanish and Business, her career in software consulting and sales took her to various parts of Latin America including Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.  Pleasure travel took her to Chile, Honduras, Guatemala and Uruguay.  In retirement, Jean's volunteering has focused on students and their education both in Sonoma County as well as in Guatemala.  Active in the Rotary Club of Healdsburg as the international chair and her district’s International Humanitarian award winner in 2015, she is also Director of the Amigos de Guatemala program, on the steering committee for Tomorrow's Leaders Today, on the Student Attendance Review Board and a volunteer in the Cloverdale schools.
