A New Day for Leadership Development

By DGND David Simmer - RC Sedona

It’s an new day for Leadership Development in Arizona.  But we need your help.  We have a bold new plan.  Now we need an energetic, innovative and team-oriented “posse” to make it happen.  Together we are going to use the merger of Districts as a fresh start to develop leaders and strengthening clubs as we expand networks and friendships across Arizona.

The 5490/5510 Merger Committee has spent four months on transforming our leadership development programming by exploring best practices, interviewing leadership from both our own and other Districts, reviewing Rotary International’s vision and guides for leadership programs, surveying past participants, testing assumptions and considering the latest academic thought on organizational education in the context of Rotary in Arizona.  Along the way we have added our own innovations and have created a framework for leadership development programming that will inspire leaders, emphasize the networking and friendships of Rotarians in Arizona and will promote the growth of vibrant clubs across new District 5495.

The attached graphic depicts the progression of leadership development that will infuse the clubs with the inspiration, skills and network to engage clubs across District 5495.  It begins with the motivation and preparation of our District Governor and carries through club leadership and members of Rotary across our District.

Among the innovations is the new Club Leadership Academy that will be introduced next spring.  The Academy will bring together a broad set of club leaders, led by their President-Elect, for a full day of diverse educational experiences and inspiration.  Our goal is to build on the excitement and planning that the President Elect takes away from PETS and encourage club team-building and motivation for the club’s entire leadership.  The Academy will offer classes unique to every club leadership position as well as classes that will translate beyond Rotary.  For example, we will explore classes on motivating a team, public speaking, crisis management, business writing and other topics that will serve both our clubs and our membership.

Now we need help.  We are seeking energetic, innovative and team-oriented  Rotarians from Districts 5510 and 5490 to make this happen.  Beyond the obvious need for facilitators and subject matter experts, the range of skills that we need are diverse, including:

    CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

    EVENT PLANNING AND LOGISTICS

    FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT

    INSTRUCTION DESIGN & DISTANCE LEARNING

    MARKETING

    MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

    REGISTRATION
