Rotary in Action is our compelling reason to serve this great organization. Here is an opportunity to not only volunteer but to impact our future generation of Rotarians. Glendale West Rotarian, Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux and other Rotary members are calling on us to join their efforts to reduce bullying and prevent teen suicides that are at an epidemic level in Arizona.  Our Rotary Interact clubs from districts throughout Maricopa County will be involved and attending this one day conference on January 16, 2018 at Grand Canyon University and they need our support. Our Interact Clubs are heavily involved in bullying prevention and will be conducting follow up action plans through their clubs. We urge you to join this movement and help us to Speak Up, Stand Up and Save Lives!

2nd Annual Speak Up Stand Up Save a Life Student Conference

The second annual Speak Up, Stand Up, Save A Life Youth Conference for students in grades 5-12 is underway.  Your students continue to be faced with some incredibly serious situations in their lives and online.  The Speak Up Stand Up Save a Life Conference is a movement that will help spread the message that when they see something out of the ordinary posted online or hear something in the halls, they need to have the confidence to speak up and say something. This conference deals with real issues facing our youth such as cyber-bullying, drug addiction, depression, mental health and disability issues, and ongoing threats against others.

This year, the conference will be held at the Grand Canyon University Arena to fit 5,000 conference attendees.  The one day event is slated for January 16th from 9:00a.m. – 2:30p.m.  Thanks to dedicated sponsors including Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Pendergast Elementary School District and GCON Inc., this program is offered to schools at no cost.  Since 2009, suicides among youths has increased 81%.  One critical factor is the stigma associated with asking for help.  On January 16, 2018, students, police chiefs, government officials, parents and teachers will get together to tackle ongoing issues involving bullying, depression, drug addiction and other ongoing issues facing our youth.  Together we can inspire everyone to Speak Up, Stand Up, and help Save a Life!  Help us reach our goal of 5,000 conference attendees in 2018!
