Our Newest Rotary Club
By PDG Chuck Fitzgerald - RC of Peoria

Fellow Rotarians,

By now you may have heard of the Rotary Club of Glendale Thunderbird, the newest club in Arizona. The Rotary International Board of Directors is scheduled to approve this new club during its meeting in San Diego later this month.

The Thunderbird Rotary Club, as it will be called, is a club on the campus of the Thunderbird School of Global Management and has been meeting since October. It currently has 35 members - 33 graduate students and 2 faculty/staff members - representing 17 different countries. I am honored, as a Special Advisor, to help facilitate this new club into Rotary.

The idea behind the club came from Clef Peterson (Past President of Phoenix Rotary 100) and Ken Boyd (Past RI Director). Graduate students who are members, will be able to return to their home communities upon graduation and have the opportunity to more-easily transfer to a local Rotary Club as full Rotarians.

The new club can use some help. The Thunderbird RC, like other new clubs, is starting with nothing. Please consider supporting the new club in two ways:
  1. Attend their Charter Celebration on January 30th in Glendale (see attached invite). Please join District Governor Dan Messersmith, District Governor-Elect Nancy Van Pelt, and Past RI Director Ken Boyd as we welcome into Rotary the Thunderbird Rotary Club, led by Charter President Temitope "Temi" Adepoju. Registration is required at: https://thunderbirdrotary.eventbrite.com
  2. Provide a Charter Gift to the new club. They need all sorts of things as they begin: club bell, club banner, 4WT banner and materials, name badges, pins, ABCs of Rotary books, ... and so on. Would you like to provide one of these items? If so, do NOT purchase anything without speaking directly to me about it (this is to avoid duplicates). What do they need the most? Operating funds and Project funds. Please consider a financial donation to help them get established. All who provide Charter Gifts will be recognized at the celebration event.
In summary, contact me directly to provide a Charter Gift, and please Register for the Charter Celebration at https://thunderbirdrotary.eventbrite.com.

Thank you so much for your consideration!

Best wishes in the New Year,
chuck
