Sun Lakes Rotary Celebrates 23 Years of Giving Dictionaries to Students

Submitted by Dr. Honora Norton, Rotary Club of Sun Lakes Public Image Director

For 23 years, the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes has helped put dictionaries into the hands of local third-grade students. With another 4,000 dictionaries being prepared this year, the club is approaching an impressive milestone: nearly 100,000 dictionaries over the life of the project.

On October 3, Rotarians, Hamilton High School students, and friends gathered at Hamilton High School for the club's 23rd annual Dictionary Sticker Party.

Under the leadership of Rotarian Roger Edmonds, volunteers worked together to prepare the dictionaries for distribution to third graders in the Chandler Unified School District and the Gila River Indian Education Community.

Four longtime volunteers deserve special recognition. Bill Giessing, Roger Edmonds, Gary Whiting, and Bonnie Whiting have participated in the dictionary project every year since it began 23 years ago.

The annual project demonstrates the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes' longstanding commitment to education and the value of bringing club members, students, and community volunteers together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make another year of the dictionary project possible!
