On September 8, the District Nominating Committee selected Bret McKeand to serve as District 5495 Governor in 2021-2022.

 

Bret has been a Rotarian since 2007, first as a member of the Sun City West club and currently as a member of the Peoria North Rotary Club. Bret is a past president of the Peoria North club and currently serves as Assistant District Governor for area 6. He has also served as president of the Peoria North Rotary Club Foundation. Bret is actively involved in club and District activities and he has attended multiple District Conferences and International Conventions.

 

Bret recently retired as president and publisher of Independent Newspapers Inc. Over the years, Bret has served as president of Arizona Newspapers Association Board of Directors; president of the Northwest (now Surprise) Chamber of Commerce; president of the Sun City Historical Society Board of Trustees; president of the Sun City Community Fund; and president of the American Cancer Society, West Valley Unit. In 2013, Bret was recognized by the Valley of the Sun Society of Professional Journalists Order of the Silver Key award for his 25 plus years of notable journalism in Arizona.  Bret authored the book Images of America: Sun City in 2010 and donates all proceeds from the book to the Sun City Historical Society.

Over his years in business and as president of various non-profits, Bret has developed the skills necessary for building strong and effective teams. District 5495 is fortunate to have Bret stepping into a bigger leadership role.
