Please read this note from Ken Kelley, President of the Goodyear-White Tanks regarding a member in need, and a possible service project for other clubs.

One of our Rotarians, Brian Day our treasurer, his daughter was in a serious car accident in Tx. She has suffered a traumatic brain injury. All of the family that can help and support her is in Arizona. They are trying to raise money to bring her to Arizona. They have started a go fund me page. I am including the link. I don’t know if this is something you would share with the district or not.http://www.gofundme.com/se5rfg. I really wanted to pick your brain about social services and were to start. Jessica was a self-employed person and as such not insured. Getting her here is one thing. Getting her the social services she will need is another. I hope you can help us by connecting us with the people we need to ask. Things are moving quickly in Tx, because of her insurance situation I believe.

A little bit about Brain. He is owner of BMD business services, formally Cartridge World. Brian has a little bucket that he puts money into every quarter for a local charity. The money comes from small cash jobs he does to help people out. He usually collect two to three hundred dollars. My heart aches for him and his family for what they are going through. This is just the beginning of what will be a long road. I want to give back to him as he has for our community.

Chuck if you know the agencies that will best help in this type of situation, please guide us. Brian’s cell phone is  623-853-5081 or feel free to call me 623-221-1956.

Last but not least. The Gary McEchern Annual Youth Exchange scholarship is sponsoring their first exchange student. Cia Villanueva Assistant District Governor for District 5490 interact who will be going to Russia this upcoming exchange year. This scholarship was made possible in large part by George Hester and the Buckeye Rotary Club. The Estrella Rotary Club contributed a generous donation as well. The reason I share this with you is because the word Annual is a big commitment. Gary was a Past District Governor and many hands makes light work. Financially this is approximately a Six Thousand dollar scholarship. Should other clubs in the district want to contribute a small amount each year that would go a long way to keeping the word Annual in. The Buckeye and Goodyear clubs have a program in place to take care of the hosting side of the equation. You see when you send someone you have to take someone. You need to have a school and host families and financial support for the inbound student.

I know I shared my vision for this Scholarship in Gary’s name with you. Quick reminder though. Gary was a big fan of the youth exchange program. Gary and Jan would talk about the kids they had around the globe. I thought this would be a nice honor and would keep Gary’s memory alive. The scholarship would go to a financially needy student so they can have the experience. No telling what impact they may have on the world because of the experience. Gary’s family would be the deciding vote on the selection committee. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
