Image   District 5490, led by Prescott Sunup Rotary and Sedona Rotary clubs has twice brought clean water to members of the Maasai community in Kenya located in east Africa. We have benefited more than 30,000 people in that community. We want you to know that health and educational opportunities have been enhanced because we brought water, pure and simple, to those who needed it.

Our latest effort is the joint Eorr Enkitok water project (G-636) being led by RD 7670 (North Carolina) as a direct result of what their representative saw at Mosiro. The plan is to drill a water well and construct a gravity pipeline system that will provide sustainable access to clean well water to the community’s schools, clinics and village public sites along a ten kilometer route. This water system will serve over seven thousand people.

We have pledged support for an ambitious multiphase effort to bring water to that Maasai community. Like the previous projects, the community is vitally involved at the most basic level. Water committees are formed, cost estimates made and the Rotary Club of Navishia, Kenya is taking the lead in developing the project. That club has had significant success with similar projects. Some of the very same individuals who helped on the prior two projects are involved including Professor Mary Poole (Prescott College); Meitamei olo Depash, Maasai leader and CEO of the Maasai Environmental Resource Coalition (MERC).

The project as contemplated is approximately $105,000. RD5490 is slated to raise $25,000USD; RD7670 and 9212 another $34,000. With your contribution and we will reach our goal.

Contributions may be made to PRCC and mailed to 501 E. Osborn Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85012 (please mark checks KENYA)

Thank you for all that you do for Rotary!
