The Rotary Club of Tempe Downtown inducted a new member this week. Kavisha Saraswat found Rotary through our online membership lead system. Rotary Membership Leads are inquiries that come through the Rotary.org website. Each lead is distributed to a District based on location and ultimately down to the clubs for a personal invitation. You might be wondering how exactly our District handles these leads. Past District Governor Jeanie Morgan, from the Mesa West Rotary Club, supports our membership leads and helps introduce prospective members to local clubs. This communication includes reaching out directly to prospective members as well as forwarding the lead to local clubs.
As many of you might know, an invitation shouldn’t occur just once and our leads are no different. Membership leads can also be utilized for follow up invitations to club meetings, projects or District events. Ultimately, we want to educate prospective members and match them with the right club. There are times when current lead schedules are unable to match with the day and times offered by existing clubs in their area. Therefore, it’s exciting because we had four prospective members attend a dinner interested in starting an evening club in the Gilbert area! It is clear that people are looking for ways to contribute to their community!

What can you do to attract new members?
Ensure your website is up to date. We had a visitor just last week that attended our meeting and had only learned about our club through our club website. What did she say attracted her to visit? She really liked the youth programs that we were involved in. Be sure that your website reflects your club culture, the projects you support, and what makes your club unique.Utilize your contacts. Keep a list of past guests, membership leads in your area, and friends of your club and keep in touch. Invite them to projects, send out club success stories, and have fun with club holiday cards!
