A program that provides 'mini-grants' to teachers in the Osborn Elementary School District in central Phoenix is being underwritten for 2014-15 by the Phoenix West Rotary Club.  The $6,000 donation to the Osborn Educational Foundation was made in honor of Dr. Wilma Basnett-Emerson, who retired June 30 after 26 years as District Superintendent.  Dr. Basnett-Emerson, a member of Phoenix West since 1993, was the club's first female president, and the first woman to serve (2005-06) as District Governor of District 5490.  She is married to Dr. Charles Emerson, professor emeritus at Arizona State University, and former president (2001-02) of Phoenix Rotary 100.

The 'mini-grant' program supports innovative teacher-initiated classroom projects and activities of up to $300 each based on proposals submitted to the Foundation.  Examples of previously awarded mini-grants can be viewed at www.osbornnet.org/oef/MiniGrant.htm
