Saturday evening was filled with food, drink, entertainment and excitement as we welcomed CHUCK FITZGERALD as our 2014-2015 District 5490 Governor. We are all thrilled to have Mr. Fitzgerald leading the District charge and look forward to another successful and eventful year for 5490!  Now for those of you unfortunate enough to have missed the June 21st installation, here's how I (unofficially) experienced it going down...

PDG Duce Minor appeared even happier than his usual self as he performed such annual rituals as the "passing of the governor's stool." Relieved that was over, Duce was all smiles as he presented Chuck with a broom and a dustpan, which I assume was to clean up the mess he had left behind. He then presented Chuck with a book entitled "Cat Herding Manual for District Governor's - A Collection of the Things That Really Work - What Every DG Needs to Know." From what I could see, the pages were all blank so I assume Duce simply contracted a 12 month case of writer's block, and will certainly add an entry if he can think of one.

Never one to miss an opportunity to be in the limelight, PDG Craig Wilson was also on hand to explain the history of the District ceremonial "boot". At length. Perhaps fearing one boot would not be sufficient, he brought two boots and a woman's shoe with him, displayed them on the podium and was clearly prepared to give a boot to anyone who dared to approach the mic.

Governor Chuck, who is apparently a man of pomp and circumstance, and not one to be outdone by any previous governor, entered the room with a complete entourage of what I can only describe as "dancing Chucks." It might have been the two Corona's speaking, but I found the eight or so performing "mini-me's" donning giant Chuck heads thoroughly entertaining with gyrating hips, flailing arms and bobbling heads while strangely keeping beat to the music. Perhaps this is to be Chuck's signature entrance at all District events? If so, I strongly recommend the Coronas.

Finally, a Rotary circus of this magnitude simply could not happen without a few heart-touching, beautiful moments to save the event. Chuck's boss, his lovely wife, children and adorable grandchildren (some traveling from across the country) came to show their support and express their pride. However, suspiciously, later that evening, we all witnessed Chuck paying his children off with Paul Harris Fellowship Awards for each of them.

It's going to be a great year!
